Ultimate Turkey Lasagna Recipe

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed that I’ve been talking quite a bit about lasagna lately.  I’ve been craving it for ages, and for the first time in a long while, I got a chance to actually make it.  I headed to the grocery store closest to home, Vons, and bought Barilla Lasagne and Barilla Tomato and Basil sauce, ground turkey, and more ingredients, and made my husband’s favorite Ultimate Turkey Lasagna Recipe.  The end result was ah-maz-ing!

My husband doesn’t like ricotta cheese so I substitute with mozzarella, but you can certainly make this recipe the old fashioned way, using ricotta or anything you like.

Ingredients:

9 pieces of Barilla Lasagne
2 jars of Barilla Tomato & Basil sauce
20 oz. of ground turkey
1 green pepper (medium to large)
4 cloves of Garlic (diced)
fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, parsley)
16 oz. mozzarella cheese (shredded or sliced)
handful of Kalamata olives (diced)
garlic salt (table salt is fine), black pepper

Directions:

Step 1:

Pre-heat your oven to 350°.

Set water to boil in a medium to large pot.  Place garlic and green peppers in a non-stick pan for about a minute, and add the turkey, salt and black pepper. Let this cook until the turkey is fully brown.

Step 2:

Add the Barilla Sauce to the turkey, cover and let it simmer on a low heat for about 15 minutes.  Once the water is boiling, add the pasta to it, with a dash of salt until it’s softened.

Step 3:

Fold the fresh herbs (except the parsley) and olives into the sauce, and set it aside in the covered pan.

Step 4:

Remove the pasta from the heat, drain it carefully, and pat dry with a paper towel.  Add 3 pieces to a 9 x 13 oven pan.

Step 5:

Layer!

Add a thick layer of the sauce over the pasta, followed by a thick layer of the cheese. Add another 3 pieces of pasta to the top, and repeat until you are down to your last layer of cheese.  Top with parsley and pop the pan in the oven for about 30 minutes or until the cheese has a golden hue.

*you can make a smaller batch using 6 pieces of pasta, and a 9 x 9 pan, like I did.

Once it’s done, take it out of the oven and let it set for about 15 minutes before slicing into it.

But if you can’t wait that long, go for it!  And tomorrow, go for a leftover slice, because it’ll be even BETTER.

A little less fat and calories than a traditional lasagna using ground beef and ricotta, but you will never notice!
