I got a little crafty this weekend! I was playing around with my new Cricut Mini and thought I’d whip up my first project for my little man who is starting kindergarten in just a couple of weeks. He’s totally oblivious to this big milestone, meanwhile I’m franticly shopping, crafting, planning–well you get it.
So just to get myself warmed up with my fantastic new toy, I personalized a plastic pencil box. Every big kindergartner needs one, right?
This was a fun project to make and although my son didn’t ‘help’ per se…he was an official creative contributor to this project; he choose to use the color orange to match his buddy the Ubooly, which he was playing with nearby. You may remember this little guy from my review a couple months back. So cute and super interactive..since I have the app downloaded on my iPhone, he and Chase are on a first name basis
If you don’t have a Cricut I strongly suggest you get one. I have no idea how I made it so long without one! It cuts just about any type of paper, and even fabric. In the case I cut some vinyl with it, but for my next project I’ll be trying out some thicker stuff, and eventually the fabric!
If you want to send your young kids to school with a cute Personalized Pencil Box, here’s how:
Keep Kids Creative with Cricut, Personalize a Pencil Box!
Grab an inexpensive plastic pencil box from the dollar store. You know I like blue so that’s what I went with!
Create the cut you want with your Cricut. I made two..one larger than the other using two different sheets of vinyl, solid orange, and striped grey and white.
Make your cut, and then peel the vinyl off of its backing and adhere it to your pencil box. I laid the orange one first, and overlaid the grey/white over it.
How easy is that? Now he’s got a fun and Personalized Pencil Box he can use for years to come! Well–at least until he gets to the age where pencil boxes aren’t cool anymore.
If you need more Back to School ideas (and who doesn’t?), I’ve gathered 37 more great projects for you!
…and if your kid has an Ubooly, I bet you know all the fun there is to be had! I love that little guy!
So, tell me—how are you keeping your kids creative as you get them ready for Back to School?
