Hi there!
I have dark grey walls in my kitchen and on one wall in my living room. I loooove this color (Milestone by Behr), but if you don’t have bright accessories and contrasting light paint in the room, it can really darken up the space–which is not my style. This weekend, I decided I need to do something to the lower half of my fireplace (the hearth) to brighten it up a bit.
See how dark and lower half is, while the top is bright and cheery?
Yeah, that needed a change.
It was a crazy busy weekend, but I had about 15 minutes to spare. Bring. It. On.
So I took that wicker basket on the left, and blotted it with a foam brush and leftover paint from this project.
Done.
Next I took the ‘home’ sign outside (this is a $5 buy from the big “W”, from about 3 years ago!), sprayed it with Zinsser Cover Stain. It dried in about 10 minutes, then I painted it with the same blue I used on the basket, and distressed the edges for some character.
That’s it!
Got 15 minutes? Spruce up a little corner in your home!

Wish I had a fireplace in my apartment. This is so cute! Do you have tips on how to decorate an apartment without making it look so crowded?
Jazmine, Thanks for your comment! I have some ideas, maybe I’ll write up a post on how to decorate a small space very soon. Hope you’ll come back to check it out! For now, I’ll leave you with one thing…mirrors! Use them as much as possible to reflect light and make a space look larger than it is:)
Great idea! It really did make the bottom of the fireplace POP!
Thanks so much Jill!!
Ummm Jill stole my comment.
So I’ll just say I love it!
